Educational services for immigrant students with special educational needs in Turkey: problems and suggestions

Abstract

Immigrant and disadvantaged students are the student group in need of education the most. Being both an immigrant and a student with special educational needs is a very difficult situation. In the last 3-4 years, Turkey has come a long way in the education of refugee students. There is very little research on the educational services provided for refugee students with special educational needs, how these services are provided, problems and solutions. In this research, the research findings under the headings of historical process, the situation at the school level, the situation in the Guidance Research Centers, the situation in the family-home dimension, the special education programs provided, and the legal regulations were examined. As a result of the research, suggestions were made for refugee students with special education needs to receive better special education services.
